If you were one of the chubby chasers who found yourself taking home a Toshiba Thrive, you may be pleased to know that the device has been rooted – just not COMPLETELY. The guys over at TabletROMs discovered an exploit on the Thrive and from there, the guys from ThriveForums picked up the ball and finally gained Super User permissions on the tablet.
So while the stock ROM on the Thrive is rooted and can run rooted apps, developers still haven’t been able to gain R/W access to the system directory which makes deleting apps that came pre-installed on the device possible. Interestingly enough, Toshiba actually built the software to flash the stock recovery upon reboot making a custom recovery and custom ROMs a non-possibility as well. Super user and root access is always the first step so here’s hoping the devs manage to crack this chunky monkey soon enough.
