Amazon has just secured instant video streaming rights with CBS that allows Amazon Prime customers to stream thousands of shows from CBS’s vast library of shows at no added cost. Some of the more notable shows in the deal include “The Tudors,” “Numb3rs,” “Medium,” the complete “Star Trek” franchise, “Frasier” and “Cheers.”
It’s long been rumored that Amazon will offer it’s video streaming service for free on its very own Android powered tablets exclusively. Though unconfirmed, I’m sure there will most likely be some kind of trial period a user can opt in after purchasing an Amazon tab. With content from CBS (and more studios likely to follow) this could give their upcoming Android tablets the kind of wide adoption seen on Amazon’s mega successful Kindle.
If you factor in the Amazon tablet, Amazon’s Appstore, music streaming service and Cloud Drive, one might even say Amazon is using the power of Android against Google. Seems like Amazon is directly competing with Google offering many of the same services as Google and on their own OS no less. Has Google created a monster?
With Android tablets unable to break any kind of iPad 2 type sales records, it will be interesting to see how well the public takes to Amazon’s new Android tablets. Amazon’s 7-inch Honeycomb powered tablet is rumored to launch in August with their quad-core Kal-El version in early 2012.
