Oh, boy. I had this issue with my Google I/O edition Galaxy Tab 10.1 but I didn’t think it’d still be a problem with the retail version at this point. Users at XDA are still banging their heads on an issue that’s keeping their devices from waking after being asleep for some time. It’s unrelated to a dead battery issue as users are still able to see that the device is on by plugging it into their computers.
There is no confirmed button combination to remedy the matter. Some users have reported successes with various workarounds, but mileage is definitely varying. We’re going to get the word out to Samsung in hopes to get this issue cleared up before too many unlucky souls return their devices due to bad tastes left in their mouths. In the meantime, please do tell us if you’re experiencing the same. [Thanks Luis!]
Samsung Strikes Again!!
“Sleep of Death” issue? I had this on a custom rom for Transformer. Resolved this issue by going back to stock Android 3.1.
That’s hilarious.
My Galaxy S does the same thing.
have you had any issues with the media player not playing music and youtube always giving an error saying “Sorry this video cannot be played at this time” i get these all the time but i re-start and its fine again.
I’ve had this happen to me a few times. Holding down the power button for several seconds causes it to shut down and then restart in some sort of maintenance mode, but then holding down the power button for 7-10 more seconds causes it to reboot properly. It’s a huge pain in the ass but it’s easy to get around.
my toshiba thrive does this also…maybe this is HC related?
I doubt it is related to OS. I have Xoom & retail Galaxy 10.1 and I don’t have this issue.
Ive had my Galaxy Tab 10.1 since 2nd day after launch and I have had NO problems with it at all.
Jesus Christ will you assholes stop with the annoying advertisements about a scam site. I wonder if they can ban this asshole
This is NOT just a problem on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Every Android phone I have ever owned, with every software version (stock Android from 0.9 to 2.3.4, AOSP, JesusFreke, CyanogenMod up to 7.0, HTC Sense), with every level of hardware (from the G1 up to the dual core monster processor in my HTC Sensation) has had a problem with the device becoming completely unresponsive to physical button presses and the touchscreen — the device won’t wake up, won’t answer calls, won’t hang up calls, etc. etc. etc. — I have reported this bug in person to people on the Android core team at Google I/O, and nobody seems to know it’s even an issue. How can they not know this is a problem if they actually use Android devices every day? This problem has affected me frequently on every device I have ever used. Sometimes the device comes back to life after 30 seconds, sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes nothing but removing the battery and rebooting will fix it.
It only happenes to me when im watching a youtube video and accidently tap the power button. The video keeps playing (i can hear the audio) but the screen wont turn on.
This use to be a huge issue on Windows Mobile devices (anyone even remember those?) anyway, the phone would be completely locked up (no notification for calls emails alarms, no response to screen input) but the phone would show the home screen when the power button was pressed. Used to happen once a week on my Dell Axim 51v.
IIRC RIM puts watchdog timers in their phones to reboot them automatically when this happens, which is one of the reasons I used to be a Blackberry fan.
works great on the dell streak, i knew there was a reason for the dell streak!!!!
There are other options besides the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Check them out on http://www.mytabletsplus.com .
wow, that is a really lame website. You bothered to post it here? It looks like you’ve barely started it. Fail.
Thanks for the feedback. More has been included now.
My Xoom sometimes is not responsive when coming out of sleep. I have to hit the power button several times before it wakes. I only started having this problem with 3.1
I have this same problem on my Acer Iconia.
Unresponsivity (is that a word?) is my only real complaint with Android. This same unresponsivity is what makes the OS jumpy. I’ve had this problem with my I/O tablet since day one.
