Amazon Could Come Out of the Starting Gate Strong With 1.2 Million Android Tablet Shipments Next Quarter

Wondering just how big Amazon’s push into the Android tablet market, and tablet market period, will be? DigiTimes is reporting that they are poised to ship 1-1.2 million tablets when it’s expected to be introduced in the third quarter. While Amazon has yet to acknowledge rumors of an Android tablet or a tablet of any sort, mounting evidence has made it hard to deny that they’re working on some piece of hardware with Android at the helm.

Couple that with all of their smartphone and tablet initiatives for Android and you can see why we’re optimistic that Amazon will be coming to the Android party before too long. If anyone has the biggest chance to make a big difference in the tablet space up against the big bad Apple, it’s Amazon (despite everything going on with the Appstore name battle).

Amazon is said to be bringing not just one, but two devices to the game – one codenamed Coyote and the other codenamed Hollywood. The former would house NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor, while the latter is said to be coming with Tegra 3, aka Kal-El, NVIDIA’s quad-core chipset.

The highly-successful Kindle devices have given Amazon a household name and the ability to apply that to tablets will help them more than we probably know. Amazon has also been rumored to be working on a phone, but evidence suggesting that hasn’t been as strong. [DigiTimes]
