Acer delays launch of Iconia A100 tablet and Iconia Smart handset

Those eager to get Honeycomb in a bite-sized package will have to wait a bit longer, according to a report over at Digitimes. Acer is said to be delaying their 7-inch Iconia A100 tablet, which was originally slated for a May/June launch. That date has been pushed back to a more likely August/September launch. The reason isn’t due to half-baked hardware, either. Industry sources cite incompatibility between the 7-inch screen size of the A100 and the Honeycomb UI, which was designed for larger 10-inch displays. With Google’s current focus in other places, Acer is waiting it out hoping for a version of Android 3.0 optimized for slightly smaller screens.

Also delayed is the Acer Iconia Smart, the 5-inch smartphone originally scheduled to launch this month. Component supply shortages as a result of the Japanese earthquake are the culprit here. A new projected release is set for July.
