Even with Overall Business Slowing, Sony Ericsson Reports Rise in Android Smartphone Sales

Android brought a surge in smartphone sales for Sony Ericsson in the first quarter of 2011, but the manufacturer still had trouble in the margins. A majority 60 percent of sales in Q1 were Android devices, with an increased average selling price. However net income still fell to €11 million, down €10 million from the same period one year prior. This still equated to a €3 million gain over the previous quarter when all was said and done.

Though Sony Ericsson isn’t operating as strongly as they were a year ago, their faith is in their large portion of smartphone sales and the Android operating system in breathing life back into the ailing profits. They sure have the lineup of devices to get things going and are banking on devices like the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc to be worldwide successes.
