A while back at the Dell Means Business conference, the hardware computing vendor was supposed to mention their 10-inch Android tablet. Unfortunately they came to town with their Windows offering and didn’t let loose a single peep about any supposed Android rendition. The reason is now known – it’s been delayed until fall.
The news comes to us courtesy of Forbes who has heard as much from a company source. Dell’s 10 inch tablet was supposed to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb when it launched – their current offerings are all still on Android 2.2.
There’s nothing at the source to confirm this, but it may be directly related to Google’s anti-fragmentation initiative where they are requiring partners to agree to new terms before they’re allowed early access to the latest version of Android. Dell could either be waiting for a public release or they may have to make revisions to their hardware to comply. [via Android Central]
[Update]: Looks like this delay is actually for their Windows-based tablet and not the Android version we’ve been hearing about. Carry on.
