Nuance Speech Dictation SDK Will Help Spread The Word, Literally

Nuance makes a number of popular speech translation and dictation apps such as Dragon Dictation and the company will soon allow OTHER developers to add speech-to-text capabilities into their own apps. The company will be releasing the Dragon Mobile SDK to developers in their mobile dev program which applies to both Android and iOS platforms.

The company provides speech-to-text translation for 8 languages and text-to-speech in 35 languages. They’re one of the premiere voice-related companies, perfecting their service since the 1990’s and gobbling up smaller companies like Jott and SpinVox. Extending their expertise to 3rd party developers will only increase the number of apps with voice capabilities.

Personally, I use voice commands on my phone every single day. Whether I’m just doing a google search, composing a text or e-mail, getting navigation directions or anything else- if I’m in a semi-quiet place I’ll use Android’s built in speech-to-text engine. What are your favorite apps out there that let you leverage voice? Anything you wish you could do that you can’t currently?
