ViewSonic’s undoubtedly trying to expand their scope in a consumer electronics world now dominated by smartphones and tablets. Their ViewPad series was introduced as a line of tablets that weren’t all too bad for your money, but today’s announcement of the ViewPad 4 adds cellular radios to a 4-inch rendition – that means they’re now in the phone game, folks.
The device has a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255, a 5 megapixel camera, 720P HD video recording, Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS. You’ll also be getting an HDMI-out port to view your HD videos on your television (up to 720P). It’ll be running Android 2.2 the first time you power it up, but there’s no word on if that’ll have a custom skin sitting on top.
I thought it was funny that ViewSonic considered this thing a tablet first and foremost, but all of the technical stuff aside, we’ll be looking for this one on the show floor today regardless.
