Amazon Kindle for Android 2.0 is out and it now brings more than just books to your Android device. Magazines and newspapers will now be available for purchasing and viewing, and to get them, you are no longer kicked to your default browser. (But the purchasing mechanism is still HTML-based. Amazon’s just added a WebView-based front-end inside the app.) You’ll also get the ability to update your social networks on what you’re reading and how far you are, the ability to zoom in to images, check which chapter you’re on in the status bar, and the option to use volume rockers for turning pages. Not bad. Hit the QR code below to get updated.
Nice … esp install to SD. Why can’t Google (maps, mail and voice search) and Facebook add move to SD to their apps, then I’d actually have some space on my phone.
Quentyn, can you elaborate on “install to SD”? Or provide a link with more information? I am wondering if installing this 2.0 version moves the app and all the stored books to the SD card. I can’t find any options in the app about where the data is stored, or to move anything to the SD card.
I figured out how to move the Kindle app to the SD card:
Settings
Applications
Manage Applications (Downloaded)
click on “Amazon Kindle”
click on “Move to SD card”
For some reason, moving the app reduced the total size from over 5 MB to 2.44 MB. I have plenty of space on my SD card, but I have a shortage of space on the phone (original Droid), and have had to uninstall apps.
Hopefully some of the magazine/newspaper publishers will allow them to appear on the app. I wanted to try a magazine or newspaper and was left disapointed, can’t get any in the app at the moment
