Android Development Skills in High Demand, But You Aren’t Surprised
When the core product grows, everything surrounding it must grow. This has always been true for any business over the centuries, and it’s no less true with Android. A new study shows that the demand for Android development skills is the highest it’s ever been. Conducted by oDesk, the study shows that demand for Android skills are up 710% in October 2010 compared to the same month in 2009.
In the firm’s Online Employment Report, Android sat as the 110th-most desired skill out of all technical jobs last year. Since then, it’s moved up 70 spots as it sits at a cool 40. For comparison’s sake, iPhone sits at #23 overall. We imagined this would happen considering how fast Android’s grown this past year alone, with recent reports dubbing it the best selling smartphone operating system in quarter 3 of 2010.
And the trend is reflected just by looking at the Android market: more and more big-name companies are making their way onto your phones every day. (Seriously, there are so many app launches that it’s hard to keep up.) Android breaking the 100,000 application mark also says a lot. A visual representation of job growth can be seen above.
