Bitbop Brings a New Challenger to the Mobile TV Market
Mobile TV is still very much in its infancy thanks to the recent explosion of smartphones in the mobile space, carrier-induced bandwidth limits, and no real precedence for determining the proper pricing structure to make such a venture successful, but as network speeds increase and mobile continues to become a prime outlet for consumers to obtain media new companies aren’t hesitant to get in on the game. Enter Fox-backed Bitbop, who back in March launched as the “Hulu of mobile” on BlackBerry devices. That was, of course, before Hulu launched their own mobile effort.
Today Bitbop has launched its app for Android at the industry standard $9.99 per month for access to streaming TV shows, including a few that you won’t find on Hulu for the same premium price. And what’s more, not only will you be able to watch the Situation, Snookie, and the rest of the Jersey Shore crew fist pump their was across your Android screen via 3G, 4G, or WiFi, but you can also download episodes right to your phone for off-network viewing. If you find the price worthy and can’t get enough TV even on the go, it may be worth checking out.
