If you’re a gamer and you haven’t played Fallout 3, then you’re slipping. If you’re one of the few that will get the Pip-Boy comparison, then you’re cool and you’ll love this Android-based field unit that’s being targeted for military personnel: General Dynamics’ GD300. This wrist-mounted GPS device is a rugged-looking tool for soldiers in the field to stay on top of their location and to keep in contact with their unit mates, their bases, and to access certain tactical radios (a satellite radio to pull down up-to-the-second imagery, perhaps).
The device is just as durable as it looks and does well for itself specs wise: a 600MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 256MB of RAM, 8Gb of internal flash storage, and a 3.50-inch “glove-friendly” (resistive?) touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480. There are cell phones packing more of a punch than this, but what more do you need to call in a blanket of missiles on a particular location from the comfort of your wrist?
