This is the third time we’ve reported on Samsung’s sales in South Korea, but this time it’s starting to make us realize just how successful this phone could be. Even in America, 500,000 units sold is a very impressive number if the device’s name doesn’t start with an “i” (and isn’t the newly released [for Sprint] Motorola i1). Samsung must be ecstatic to reach that number as they – in partnership with exclusive Korean carrier SK Telecom – have been able to get that many Samsung Galaxy S phones into the hands of paying customers in their home country (where 200,000 units is considered a huge success).
To be precise, it took them 33 days to achieve the feat and they show no signs of slowing down. The device is being launched to nearly every market around the globe, with Americans still waiting for it to launch on the two big CDMA carriers on this corner of it (Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G variant is expected to be out sometime this August).
KT isn’t just ecstatic about the results that will keep their current subscriber count up for a long time coming: they’ve adopted over 200,000 new customers throughout it all. It’ll be fun to revisit these numbers after another 30 days whisk on by as we expect Samsung’s momentum to get even stronger with time.
