It was once believed that the T-Mobile G1 (aka Android Dev Phone 1 in the developer circuit and HTC Dream in other parts of the world) could never die: it was, after all, the first Android device ever created that brought about a ridiculous amount of support from nearly every major player in every part of this mobile ecosystem. Unfortunately, the advent of Android 2.0 started showing the device’s age, but that “dream” fortunately remains reality for the time being as developers like Cyanogen goes against the grain and ensures that no phone (at least no phone they support) gets left behind.
Thus – in similar fashion to CyanogenMod 5 bringing Android 2.1 Eclair to older devices like the G1 and Magic – the team behind that feat has done the same with CyanogenMod 6 for Froyo. For now, it’s just a release candidate – so it’s not really a final, stable build – but this is as close as it’s getting until the team hammers out the kinks in an already wonderful adaptation. For the G1 and MyTouch 3G version, make your way to this thread at XDA.
For those of you with the Nexus One, you already know what the deal is: your AOSP-based Froyo-filled CM6 can be had right over here.
