The HTC Ace: Will it be a GSM Version of the EVO 4G?

Eric Lin’s been getting his and HTC’s name well into the news this weekend. The latest gossip suggests that HTC could be gearing up to introduce a GSM version of either the HTC EVO 4G or the HTC Droid Incredible to launch in other parts of the world. Speaking with Pocket-Lint at Uplinq USA, Lin responded to inquiries about a possible EVO launch with some almost-really-asssuring words.

“But I definitely think that because of all of the interest that people have had in the Evo, and how well it’s been selling, that you’ll definitely see European carriers be like ‘uh-oh, maybe we should get something like that’. But I don’t have anything [to announce] quite yet.”

The two most important words coming out of this quote are “quite” and “yet” if you haven’t already figured it out. Pocket-Lint’s trying to double back on their original quote, however, by dispelling it and saying they have reason to believe it could actually be an HTC Incredible. Aside from the fact that they haven’t provided any compelling evidence to support their claim, we’re not in much of a hurry to agree as an HTC Incredible in other parts of the world would almost be redundant: the HTC Desire has provided nearly the same package for quite some time.

Whatever the case may be, HTC may be looking to do the opposite of what they did with the HTC Desire in bringing a once-US-only device to our friends residing on other continents, but it will probably be a while before we hear anything substantial.
