Samsung Tablet Still Galaxy Tab, Coming Q3; Galaxy Beam Gets Dated; T-Mobile Galaxy S Hits the FCC
There’s a nice big pool of Samsung news to be had this morning. Firstly, those rumors we heard yesterday were not true: the Samsung Galaxy Tab has not been renamed to the Galaxy Tape, as “trusted sources” would have it. The news was confirmed by JK Shin, president of the South Korean company’s mobile division, who also gave us a launch window we could remain confident in.
We are planning to launch a table computer called “Galaxy Tab.” It will be launched no later than the third quarter of this year.
Next up, Samsung’s Galaxy Beam – a device they haven’t been too talkative about – has finally gotten a launch window. Singapore will apparently be the first country to see the first Android-based mini-projector device (they’re getting all the goods first lately) and should happen this July. The phone should also still be seeing a launch in most of Europe and Asia shortly afterward.
If you need a refresher on specs, this phone will have a 3.7-inch Super-AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera, Android 2.1, a nice 1800 mAh battery, and all of the video codecs you would need to take full advantage of the device’s video-out functionality.
Finally, the FCC just approved a version of the Samsung Galaxy S that’s compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G bands (and also happens to have a model number of T959). After all of the evidence we’ve seen pointing to the launch of this device on T-Mobile, it’s pretty much a given. All we’re waiting on is pricing and availability which – thanks to this newfound FCC love – could be headed our way very soon.
