Motorola Launching 20 New Android-Powered Handsets This Year

Remember when we were excited to learn that 18-20 Android handsets would be launching in 2009 across a handful of different manufacturers? It’s funny to look back at that now that we’ve got manufacturers like Motorola supposedly bringing nearly 20 devices to us 2010. So says the guys over at SlashGear, Motorola’s Tom Satchwell – director of marketing for mobile devices – says we will see 20 “unique” devices over the next 7 months.

I didn’t put unique in quotes because Mr. Satchwell said it, I put it in quotes because you’ll always have to question how many of the handsets will really be different: we already know Motorola likes to launch the same devices with different names and slightly different internals and externals, but that is all up for debate still. It’s also very easy to forget about the smaller phones Motorola will be launching for regional carriers such as the Motorola i1 for Boost and the phone they’ve allegedly got headed for Metro PCS, both here in the United States.

Regardless of where the devices sit on the low-end/high-end scale and regardless of how big their launches will be in various parts of the world, the thought of seeing 20 Motorola handsets by the end of this year sits mighty right with me.
