Last month, we reported about a company by the name of Global IP Solutions who were developing an Android-compatible platform – named VideoEngine – that would bring rapid development for voice and video chat. At the time, it sounded like GIPS really had something going for them. Google just confirmed that they had A LOT going for them: to the tune of $68-million.
While the firm doesn’t have all of their eggs in the Android basket, the fact that the acquisition plans were announced shortly after they announced their video chat platform for the mobile operating system leads me to believe Google has brought them on specifically to continue that work for Android (previously, development was also being worked on for the iPhone OS and Windows Mobile).
