Financial Times is reporting that HTC will continue to aggressively ramp up their smartphone shipping numbers with plans to increase shipments by almost 50% over the next few months. In Q1 of this year, HTC posted gross revenues of $1.2 billion from 3.3 million handsets sold.
Q2 looks to be even better for them, though, with early forecasts putting gross revenues at $1.6 billion from 4.5 million handsets sold. Chief Financial Officer Cheng Hui-ming chalked their good fortunes up to their ability to frequently and consistently bring fresh devices to the market, often innovating far ahead of their competitors, saying:
our product refresh cycle is faster than our competitors . . . if your plan was made two years before you launch your phone, then the design and pricing probably will not match the changes in the market
As HTC continues to gather up steam leading into the second half of this year, it seems they won’t hit any speed bumps anytime soon. With today’s launch of the HTC Droid Incredible, the Summer launch of the HTC EVO 4G, and other desirable devices already on the market, it’s clear why they’ve enjoyed the tremendous success they’ve had. For us Phans, it means we can remain confident that HTC believes Android is the present (and the future) and we can anticipate their longstanding commitment to the Open Handset Alliance and will be in the game for a very long time.
