Lenovo LePhone Is Going To China
Even with its unusual form factor, keyboard design, and obvious Asian influence, Lenovo’s LePhone intrigues me in a way that I can’t explain. It’s a good thing I didn’t get excited about this phone coming to the US as I’m sure all signs pointed to a stern “no” from Lenovo, but at least our Chinese friends are able to get their taste.
Powered by Android 2.1, the Lenovo LePhone has a pretty sizable 3.7-inch AMOLED display with a unique interface that I’m sure will pull many people in. The 1ghz snapdragon and dual cameras (front and back, both 3-megapixel) puts this one in a class with the rest. The kicker here is that weird looking keyboard can be detached if you don’t like it, leaving you to use the software keyboard exclusively (and, even more wishful, leaving room open for Lenovo to release other keyboard designs separately for it in the future).
The phone is out in China now, but Lenovo has stated they’d be offering the product in other markets in the near future. We’ll be crossing our fingers that Lenovo extends their love to other markets, and in the meantime, I hope other handset manufacturers will consider the optional qwerty design for their future products.
