Android on the Big Screen: Headed to 55″ LED TV

Android has been getting around on a lot of devices lately, leaving its smartphone roots for tablets, a speculated Google set-top box, and a 42″ HD TV. You can add one more piece of glass to that list with the announcement of a monster 55″ HD LED TV powered by Android and designed by Korean company NCPG. Also available will be 42″ and 47″ versions.

The set will be powered by a 833 MHz Cortex 8A chipset, and will feature connections for USB, HDMI, S-Video, Component video, and DVI. The backlit LED will run at 120Hz. The kicker here is the set will only come running Android 1.5, so it seems it may be a while before we see a TV with the latest and greatest version of Android (The earlier named set runs the marginal improvement of 1.6).

No word on any sort of bundled apps or if the Android Market will make an appearance, and the set won’t be available in the U.S. just yet. You can expect to find it in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Australia, and Dubai at an as yet undisclosed point in the future.
