Last month we told you that Acer would have 3-5 Android Phones in 2010 and now we’ve got more people saying the same thing. They’ll have 8 to 10 phones and at least half – maybe a little more – will be running Android. But now we’re hearing a few details from DigiTimes that are sure to stir things up.
It seems Acer is taking this smartphone thing pretty seriously and they’re beefing up their team to be more competitive as we speak:
To strengthen its handset design capability, Acer has recently incorporated 30 members from the handset unit of Taiwan-based Mitac International into its R&D team for the development of Android-platform models, said the sources. Acer now has a smartphone R&D team of 400-500 members, and the team may further expand to 750, the sources indicated.
I’m eager to see what they’ve got to offer and I’m wondering how soon will see these 3 to 5 Android Phones hit the market. I’m hoping for at least 1 new AcerDroid at CES but that’s just wishful thinking.
