Acer Android Arriving In ’09

We’ve talked a lot here at Phandroid about mobile convergence and one trend that persists is computer hardware manufacturers yearning to jump into the mobile phone game. It seems Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo all want a piece of the Android Phone action. Acer doesn’t intend to play follow the leader.

Following up on last month’s rumor that an Acer Android phone called the Acer A1 would launch in Septmeber, Acer’s Head of Mobile Phone Products Aymar de Lencquesaing has said, “We have not made any formal announcement of an Android- based device, although it’s likely that we’ll have one in 2009,” as reported by Bloomberg. This lends some support to the earlier rumors and if not the A1 in September, it seems as though we’ll have an Acer Android something before the year is over.

Acer already manufacturers mobile phones, most of which are based on Windows Mobile. They are more widely known as a computer manufacturer and their expertise in this area gives them the hope that they can offer syncing solutions between many different devices:

“One of the pain points for users around the world is ‘how do I basically port my environment from one device to another?’” de Lencquesaing said. “Because we have a suite of products in the mobile-data space that covers the whole spectrum, we can offer synchronization between all devices.”

If an incognito Engadget writer was right, we’ll see at least 2 Acer Androids this year. Nothing is official on Acer’s side of things but the intent and objective to launch an Android Phone in 2009 couldn’t be made any more apparent. Hopefully they come with more flavor and orginality than Dell.
