Wouldn’t it makes sense to have easy access to Android News and Rumors directly from your Android enabled handset? Now you can with the “Phandroid News” Application on Android Market! It has an “Android Market” Style Display that should give you clean, familiar navigation of recent articles. The application does NOT run in the background – it only refreshes on your command so you don’t have to worry about it wasting battery life.
There have been a few complaints in the Android Market Comments/Ratings about not being able to download, getting “Force Close” errors, blank refreshes, etc… I think this is partially due to a 10 minutes period of time where I published and unpublished the application – there should be FAR less problems now.
For those still having issues, I would LOVE for you to contact me here or through the market instead of just giving negative feedback and 1 star. As you can see it is working flawlessly for MANY others. Give it 5 stars if you like the concept and if you voice your issues, problems, complaints and suggestions to me, we can get them all ironed out.
Saying “me” wouldn’t be giving credit where credit is due. This application was my idea and while I oversaw the process, the actual application was written by Mike from MikeDG.com. If you have the T-Mobile G1 you’ve probably seen some of his other apps on the market. A big thanks to him for working with me to get this application on the Android Market for all the Phandroids out there – including me!
This is only version 1 of the application and we’ll be improving it as time goes on. We’ve already been tossing around some ideas such as status notifications for new posts, option to refresh automatically every X hours, search capabilities and more. But the application will have much better chance of taking shape if you folks provide your input and give a vote of confidence with good ratings in the Android Market.
Hook a blue robot up with some 5 Star Love! Hope you all enjoy the application and I hope this is the first of many, many useful Android Applications with which I have the opportunity to be involved. Actually this is the 2nd – I helped launch Vote2008 which has since been removed to the article since its officially obsolete. That app got nearly 12,000 downloads, 4 stars and 400+ ratings in addition to the fact that Android owners correctly voted on the new President. I won’t talk politics but come on… that was fun.
Phandroid News is much longer term and hopefully even more fun. Just make sure you don’t rely on the app the rest of your life and you still come visit us here!
