Google isn’t foolish enough to think that Android is the end-all, be-all of the mobile world. In fact, fostering growth among many platforms has been a key initiative of the Big G and they continue to release new and innovative apps on platforms like iPhone and BlackBerry OS BEFORE it comes out for Android.
One example is with Google Mobile Audio Search. While how great this app is will be defined by how well the speech-to-search function actually works, the potential results seem pretty incredible:
My favorite part? The application makes use of the phone’s accelerometer to know when you’re holding the phone to your head and ready to speak… and then when you take your phone away from your head it knows you’re done speaking. Like the Guiness guys say…. BRRILLLIAANNT!
If you ask me, this is a huge step forward in mobile search functionality where not only are the confines of size and travel acknowledged but embraced. I believe this App will hit the iPhone first and we’ll be eagerly awaiting it on the G1. Keep up the great work Googlers.
