Google Chrome: Installed and FAST!
UPDATE: GOOGLE CHROME RENDERS DIVS IN WORDPRESS 2.6 DIFFERENT THAN FIREFOX. THAT IS WHY THERE ARE NO PARAGRAPH BREAKS. ITS PROBABLY AN EASY FIX… BUT IM NOT GOING TO FIX IT… JUST BECAUSE ITS FUNNY TO ILLUSTRATE THAT NOW WEB DEVELOPERS WILL HAVE MORE BROWSERS TO DESIGN FOR.. UGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGH
We’ve got Google Chrome installed and WOW is it FAST! And, it looks great. We watched the Google Chrome Press Conference LIVE and then installed the browser right away, following along with the guys at ChromeSpot.com. Come join us once you’re done reading the post!
First of all, I wanted to share a couple thoughts from the Press Conference but first, I wanted to provide you with a couple links that you might want to explore for more information on Google Chrome:
Okay that should keep you occupied for a few hours. Now, onto some of the interesting points of the Press Conference. By the way, it seemed pretty odd that Google didn’t PUSH this out there a little more via buzz and buildup. I guess thats the Open Source mindset… it will win in the free market if it is good enough.
I didn’t get the names down but one lady mentioned Android’s browser and asked about the difference between the two. The Google Staffer said, “It will be very similar to Android except for the User Interface.” It almost made it seem like it would just be Chrome for Mobile though and that they’ll make a branded mobile browser as well. Chromoid? ChromeDroid? Will it happen?
As we pointed out in our last article, many are speculating that Chrome could be more of an Operating System than a Web Browser if things moved in that direction. Google dispelled the claim saying, “No I woiuld not call Chrome the Operating System of Web Apps.”
But don’t be so sure things will stay that way… by Google Officials OWN account that could change. When asked how long ago Chrome had been under development in relation to the time Google Browser rumors popped up, Google Officials said they heard the rumors and thought: “Oh, That kind of makes sense, not a bad idea!”
So why would consumers want something like Google Chrome? Because Google claims it is a “Faster, more robust, safer web experience.” On the Chrome site you will apparently be able to compare load times for various browsers. Sound like the iPhone 3G comparison? The Instinct vs. iPhone comparison? Google learned from them, letting you test the speeds yourself! (Let us know your results in comments”
When asked how they see Google Chrome as a business the first response from Google seemed defensive as the answerer tried to make a joke/cheapshot that came off very awkwardly: “We’re competing with a product that is downloaded by default on every single computer.”
The question asker responded with an emphatic, “Sooo…?” which is exactly what I was thinking. This is a press conference about YOU not the competition… why mention them? This was the only weak part of the PR Event where the company seemed to slip up and possibly get lured away from “the company line”.
But they quickly regained their footing with a very astute point (I’m paraphrasing here): “If we make our sites faster by even 20% you can generate substantial more usage. You only have a certain amount of time in the day and we want you to [spend that time doing] more searches.”
Because as we know, when you do searches GOOGLE makes money. Not a bad point although there are CERTAINLY more implications then this. It’s called REAL ESTATE.
Here is an intro video to Google Chrome:
I was going to do a quick update on how to install it but really, if you can’t do something so easy, you should be permanently banned from phandroid. [GeekVoice] Actually, you should be automatically be banished to Bandroid. Alright I’ve been awake too many hours. [/Geek]
This is an Android site so we’ll try our best not to Jock Chrome unless its in regard or relation to Android… but for more: http://ChromeSpot.com
