Pocket-Lint has supposedly heard from a source that HTC will be getting PlayStation certified devices later this year. If true, this means HTC will be able to offer users Sony-made games on their phones, something no other manufacturer outside of Sony/Sony Ericsson can say.
It wasn’t clarified whether or not HTC would have a device ready to go sometime this year but Pocket-Lint suggests HTC could be ready to go with a device to show off by the time Mobile World Congress comes around.
It’ll be interesting to see if HTC brings out at least one phone with a physical slide-out gamepad ala the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, but it’s possible they’ll just go the touchscreen route.
HTC is looking to streamline their product development starting this year and will look to make better, more unique devices. Being able to add even just one gaming-centric device to their portfolio could help them separate themselves from this over-saturated market.
Of course, HTC had hoped Beats Audio technology inside some of their phones would do that trick but PlayStation certification is an even bigger step forward. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for the Taiwanese company this year.
That picture of the Desire makes me nostalgic…2months ago I got that phone and got CM7 on it and I loved it….I changed carrier and got me a MotoRazr, a better phone…but. CM7 is so much better than 2.3.5 wich is my current OS….
I’ve had my Desire for about 2 years now (running the latest CM of course!) and now I’m wondering whether it’s even worth an upgrade… Fantastic phone – and SO much better with CM7.
Just the simplicity of CM7 is what makes our phones runs so great. It stream lines all tasks and is so easy on our batteries, you wonder why these companies havent picked up Cyanogenmod’s ideas. Even tho we got reports he was gonna be working with Samsung, im just curious what that did for him or samsung
If they go with a controller built into the phone they are just following a previously failed device, that’s kind of stupid. But HTC is known for being high end usually so hopefully it will be tight.
The Xperia Play failed because it didn’t have the right specs and also because of the name. Had it been called the Sony PSX or Sony XP or something like that and had better hardware it would’ve done better.
Awesome. I can’t wait to see more manufacturers do this. Google definitively needs a better, more uniform gaming experience.
Well I think this is the leg HTC needs, I hope they come out with a 5in device

improve the battery life first, please.
Improve shocking battery lifr and get a better screen!! Before doing any of the above. Samsungs superamoled killed u last year and the year before!
What people really want is to be able to message others via PSN (or SEN, whatever it is now). It’s up to Sony to allow this, and they’ve made no motion to do so. I can care less about ps3 games on phones, I’d pay for an app that would let me connect to the one world I can not do right now on my phone.
