Now, take this as a grain of salt but apparently, the insanely popular iOS app Instagram could/might/possibly be making its way over to Android if this pop-up notification on TatWZA’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is to be believed.
Now, I’m a little rusty with Android’s tablet UI (it’s been awhile since I had my Samsung G-Tab) but if legit, where exactly is this notification originating from? The Android Market? If this is somehow Android/Google/Samsung endorsed, it’s possible the ad leaked out ahead of the official Instagram launch but then again — it could very well be malware.
It was only a few days ago a faked Instagram app appeared in the Android Market (with 5-star ratings from its users) from an unknown developer. The app was promptly removed only moments later. Many times, malicious apps will display Airpush ads in a device’s notification bar advertising “updates” to the Android Market or hot apps like Instagram. This could very well be nothing more than that.
If this is, in fact, a leak for the official Android version of Instagram, all I have to say is — ’bout damn time.
IIt is really time for that. Am waiting for a long time!
This is probably not real. I’ve seen Airpush apps such as Temple Run and Pinterest on my gfs phone that aren’t located in the market.
I call bs on this app/leak – as in fake.
People, you don’t have to take every image with instagram (if it were to even come out on Android). It’s not THAT GOOD. People think they’ve become freaking professional photographers once they download this app. Mind boggling to me
WTF is instagram?
From what I’ve heard, all it is is a collection of filters and photo effects.
It’s basically a filter for a hipster iPhone user.
it’s not the app and features that make it cool – it’s the community. instagram is a closed community. with an android app, that means a lot of new users will be allowed in. it’s a social media thing, and a lot of people are excited about it.
Nice, i want it. Since all my friends, iphone, use it. I dont want to feel left out.
It’s a lame set of photo filters. Everyone on an iphone uses it to make their pictures look like everyone else’s. Being a “social” app does nothing for people using it necessarily and you don’t have to post it on their site. It’s more about generating more revenue for the company who had resisted android for years. A better app for photo isheep is Camera+, and the person behind it is hot, Lisa Bettany.
The developer of the iOS Instagram recently said he wasn’t interested in porting the app to Android himself, but he opened up the opportunity to a large circle of developers if anyone was interested. In exchange for porting the app to Android and providing support for it he was going to offer that developer 50% of the Android revenue (basically running it as a franchise). I wouldn’t be surprised if someone jumped at the opportunity as the porting itself would be relatively easy, while the support would really be most of the work.
Lightbox is superior to Instagram. Not sure why iPhone users don’t go with that option.
I wish this app was never invented. ugh.
Why hasn’t a viable Android competitor popped up yet?
FYI to a few who seem to not know, they already said it IS coming to android… at this point, it’s only a matter of time.. i’m betting sooner than later.
Instagram is coming to android that was announced beginning of December 2011. However when it will be coming we do not know. There is no superior app to instagram, trust me I’ve tried them all. Lightbox, picplz, paper camera, pixlr-o-matic, vignette they all lack something necessary that instagram has. Whether its the flawless facebook uploading, the ability to have access to the thousands already on instagram, or the fact that its just a cleaner app and easier to experiment with the filters unlike vignette which you have to toggle between screens and never know what you’ll be looking at once you flash over.
The controversy is now whether or not windows phone will get instagram before android OS. Rumors are that they have worked out an agreement with instagram to get it integrated into new windows phones before android OS instagram app is available.
Instagram themselves have been quiet on these rumors and have also not said anything more about an android app.
It’s not coming to Android until the developers get it “solid” for iPhone users. That’s what the instagr.am site says under their FAQs. I’m actually shocked that nobody has come up with a viable alternative. If you just want it for pics, get the Pixlr-o-matic app. It’s got a bunch of filters and lighting options. Works pretty well. Ignore Instagram and it will come to you.
anyone know what app is causing the ad? i’m getting another one today for ‘watch tv on your phone’ and detect airpush apps aren’t finding any apps that could be causing this
