OG Motorola Droid Receives Android 4.0 (Again) – This Time In A Less Alpha Alpha [Video]

14

Still hanging on to that aging Motorola Droid? Feels weird not having a number or surname after the “Droid” title but if you’re still waiting for a price drop on that superphone you’ve been eying, you may want to try out Android 4.0 in the meantime. Apparently, Ice Cream Sandwich has come a long way since we first saw an early port squeezed into the device back in December. Don’t believe me? Just check out the video below and see for yourselves.

The ROM comes courtesy of Kabaldan over on XDA Developers and although this build is still considered an alpha release, it’s nowhere near as alpha as that one port making the rounds a few months ago. If your OG Droid is rooted and you feel like throwing a new ROM for old time’s sake, just hit up the link below for the thread on XDA.

Thanks, Albert!

I've been obsessed with consumer technology for about as long as I can remember, be it video games, photography, or mobile devices. If you can plug it in, I have to own it. Preparing for the day when Android finally becomes self-aware and I get to welcome our new robot overlords.

  1. I would think that 256mb of RAM would not be enough to really do any multitasking on this old gem.

    1. Yeah, but that’s just the way people like it. Guess they wont have to use task killers anymore.. xD

  2. “all times sake?”

This from the genius that brought you “Godzirra phone.” I’m still rocking my OG Droid btw so it’s not exactly old times sake for me.

    1. LOOK! IT’S GOJIRA!

  3. Not bad… i still use og droid as an alarm clock with a desk stand. Its a useful bedtime browser too, so I might give this thing a try.

  4. so why isn’t there going to be an official ICS update for the OG nexus?

    1. Well, to get ICS squeezed onto the Droid it takes a lot of shoehorning. I’m guessing its the same for the Nexus One. Memory limitations.

  5. I am still rocking my OG Droid as my primary phone, blame it on brokeness and the awesomeness of Kabaldan’s releases :D

  6. OG Droid is still ROCKING all the way!!

  7. Still rocking my OG on the daily. Still solid. Don’t think LTE is quite ready for primetime use yet. Trying to wait for a much lower power LTE chip to be used in phones. Hoping MWC brings big things.

  8. Uhh… too bad this is for gsm Milestone, not the OG Droid, as the article states.

  9. Go Droid, go!

    I miss you sometimes… *sniff*.

  10. Chris, you got things all wrong. This is for the Motorola Milestone, and I’m using the rom on my phone right as we speak.

  11. sadly this is for milestone not droid :(
