Twitter Launching Official Android Application

5

Twitter turned speculation into fact yesterday by announcing they’re plans to generate revenue with an advertising platform called Promoted Tweets. But that isn’t the ONLY awesome news the company announced at their Chirp conference… they also told us an Official Android Application would arrive!

twitterappsYou may remember they just purchased a 3rd party Twitter app called Tweetie and rolled it into their Official “Twitter for iPhone” app and I’m assuming they’ll do the same for Android. Of course with all the APIs Twitter makes available to developers there are a billion alternatives out there and this move doesn’t mean apps like Twitdroid and Seesmic will become extinct; there is still a lot to be said for personal taste, customization, layout preferences, basic vs. in-depth, and so-on and so-forth.

This comes at a superbly interesting time for Phandroid as our own Quentyn Kennemer recently started a series of Twitter App reviews called Twitwars with his first review being of Twidgit. Make sure you stay tuned to Phandroid to catch the remainder of Quentyn’s series along with any news of an Official Twitter App being launched!

I also love traveling... where do you want to go?
