Keeping track of your battery life is one of the most important things when it comes to your mobile devices. You never want to run out of juice at random times, and there are a lot of different things you can do to improve battery life.

In order to keep track of your battery life, there are a few different options, but most folks enjoy seeing the actual battery percentage in the status bar. This functionality was officially introduced with Android Marshmallow and is still available with the release of Android Oreo.

The steps that you need to take in order to show the battery percentage may vary depending on your device, but is actually pretty simple with devices running Android Oreo. Here are the steps that you need to perform:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery
  2. Toggle on Battery percentage
  3. That’s it!

Considering the fact that Android Oreo has yet to make its way to many devices, this means that your device is likely stuck on Android Nougat. The steps to enable battery percentage on these devices is a bit more complicated, but you can still do it by enabling ‘System UI Tuner’.

  1. Swipe down on the Quick Settings Panel
  2. Press and hold the “Gear” icon for between 3-5 seconds
  3. Your device will vibrate and a notification will appear stating that System UI Tuner has been added to Settings

Once System UI Tuner has been enabled, follow these steps to enable the battery percentage in the status bar:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll down to System UI Tuner
  3. Toggle Show embedded battery percentage

After this has been enabled, you will see the battery percentage placed directly inside of the battery life indicator in your status bar. The only difference between this method and the Oreo method is that the percentage will be placed to the left of the battery indicator, versus inside of the indicator.

Unfortunately, there’s not too much else you can do to change the positioning on your device if you have a Pixel or Nexus device. It’s important to note that if you own a device other than a Pixel or Nexus, these steps may be a bit different.
