There’s a lot of things in this world that I will never understand. Like, how CD’s work or why we have to suffer with hiccups. Well, today you can add another item on that list. Why is Canada getting the Samsung Galaxy S II before the US? Well, I guess it’s still up in the air whether or not they will get the Galaxy S II before we do but at least they have some leaks showing an acutal launch date.
MobileSyrup was able to get their hands on a picture showing an incentive program for Virgin mobile employees and the document leaked a July 14th launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S II on Virgin Mobile in Canada. The Galaxy S II will easily be one of the hottest phones of the year and I’m sure any carrier wont have much of a hard time selling through their inventory.
While I suppose the device could still launch in the states somewhere around that time, the surprising lack of leaks has me worried. I know we’ve heard some rumored July launch dates for a Galaxy S II device dropping on Sprint but I guess we will just have to wait and see. Oh yeah, good job, Canada. I’m happy for you guys.

Is Virgin Mobile in Canada contract free? Can I buy it from there and use it on a US carrier?

Canada is getting it first because Canada won’t INSIST on a unique model (and unique firmware/bloatware) for every carrier. The Bell/Virgin model is identical to the Euro model except for having 850 UMTS instead of 900.
Look at what happened with the original Galaxy S…four US models, with different cases, radios, even controls, compared to the international version. Expect more of the same in the US this time around too.
And if that’s not the reason, it could be the pending Apple lawsuit is screwing things up, with either them or the carriers.

…but it’s bad business for Samsung. The number of customers for this product in Canada is measured in what, the hundreds ? Whereas in the US they’re looking at EU type numbers in the millions. But then again, there may be supply issues…

I could’ve sworn I seen an article on Engadget saying that the Samsung Galaxy S II was coming out on AT&T? And that they took the physical home button off & put the four touch capacitive buttons, so that it looks like the Samsung Infuse 4G but a little smaller?

patience almost gone with this phone. When did the UK get it? April? Are you really F-ing kidding Samsung? 4 months + to release it in the US? 4 months is a LONG time in the mobile world.
