Sending voice messages over WhatsApp is a pretty common practice in some parts of the world. This is because it is generally faster to send a voice message than typing it out, especially for longer messages or if the person isn’t free to type out a message. The good news is that it looks like the WhatsApp feature is gaining an update in the form of transcripts.
According to an announcement by WhatsApp, it looks like voice messages in the future will soon be able to get a transcripts feature. What this means is that if you are looking for a text version of the voice message, WhatsApp will be able to transcribe it for you.
This will be useful for those instances where it might not be convenient to listen to a voice message in public, so transcribing it would be much easier. According to WhatsApp, the feature is rolling out globally over the coming weeks and will support a handful of languages at the start. The company will add support for additional languages over time, so if you don’t see your language yet, don’t worry.
Voice message transcripts are actually not a new feature. There are other apps, such as WeChat, that have long supported the feature. However, it is nice to see that WhatsApp is starting to catch up.
