Apple Finally Joins the Party with RCS Support on iOS 18

0

Apple’s delayed (albeit stubborn) adoption of rich communication services (RCS) messaging services on its phones made headlines several months back, and while the Cupertino brand was somewhat obviously reluctant in adopting the feature, it’s safe to say that RCS support is now a reality for iOS users. The feature cam packaged with the latest iOS 18 update, which is available for several iPhone models as far back as the iPhone XR.

With that being said, iPhone users will no longer complain about receiving poor-quality photos and videos from Android users, as their phones will finally be able to support such files with RCS. RCS has been pretty much available on most Android smartphones for the past few years, and Google has continued to add more features over time.

For those unfamiliar with the whole issue, Apple has long refused to adopt RCS messaging, despite it being the modern standard used by nearly all other smartphone manufacturers these days. The company’s “walled garden” method extends to its iMessage service, which comes with features locked solely for iPhone users.

Another Android feature that iOS 18 adopts is the ability for users to freely customize their homescreen layout, which has been available on Android from day one. Needless to say, iOS users are in for a treat.
