Netflix Pulls VR App from Quest Store

0

While some folks would prefer to use their VR headsets (regardless of brand) to stream content from their favourite providers, it looks like Quest users will no longer be able to do this, at least with regards to Netflix content. A report from the folks over at Upload VR indicates that the Netflix app for Quest is no longer unavailable to download for the platform.

Originally ported over from the Samsung Gear VR to the Oculus Go and then the first-gen Oculus Quest, the Netflix app has been stuck in limbo without any updates for many years now. Due to limitations at the time of its release, the app was capped at 480p  resolution and didn’t support downloads or passthrough either.

With that said, Netflix is available via the Quest web browser, essentially replacing the outdated VR app – it also supports 1080p streaming, works with passthrough and virtual environments, and even works with multitasking. There are some limitations however, as the web version currently does not allow downloads for offline viewing.
