Google Dark Web monitoring feature could be free for all users

0

One of the perks of being a Google One subscriber is that you get access to the company’s “dark web reports”. The good news is that according to a report from 9to5Google, it looks like Google could be planning to release the feature for all Google Account holders later this month for free!

For those unfamiliar, the Google Dark Web monitoring feature is basically where Google scours the web to see if your personal data might have been leaked. Due to the various security breaches and data leaks over the years, there’s a chance that some of your personal information could be floating out there without your knowledge.

While dark web monitoring doesn’t delete that data, at the very least it makes users aware of the situation. So if you find that your email or phone number has been leaked, you can change it or keep an eye out for potential scam calls, texts, or emails. It’s actually kind of surprising and nice that Google isn’t locking the feature behind a paywall.

Sure, there are other online tools to help you check for personal data leaks, but since most people already own a Google account, this will make it easier. Note that the feature is expected to roll out later this month, so if you don’t see it yet, don’t worry.
