Xiaomi 14 will be the first phone to use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

0

It has been rumored for a while now that some phone makers could be launching new smartphones that use the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Xiaomi included. During the Snapdragon Summit, Xiaomi took to the stage and basically confirmed it where they revealed that the Xiaomi 14 will be launching on the 26th of October.

While the phone’s launch was confirmed, Xiaomi’s president William Lu did not mention what kind of specs or features we can expect from the phone yet, but seeing as the launch is only a day away, we should have more details soon enough.

This is kind of a first for both Qualcomm and phone makers. Usually when Qualcomm announces their next-gen flagship chipset, devices that utilize this chipset tend to launch in the following year, so this year is kind of an exception. It also explains why Qualcomm has chosen to hold the Snapdragon Summit a little earlier than previous events.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will naturally feature improvements over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, although the focus on the chipset seems to be on its generative AI capabilities where it could encourage more on-device AI processing instead of it being sent to remote servers.

This could not only speed up the use of AI, but also offer enhanced privacy since everything will be done locally. As for the Xiaomi 14, we have heard that the initial launch could be exclusive to China before it is released globally in 2024, but either way check back with us on the 26th of October for all the official details.
