Assuming Google doesn’t deviate from their plans, there is a good chance that come 2024, the company will be launching a cheaper version of the Pixel 8 in the form of the Pixel 8a. Now thanks to the folks at SmartPrix, renders of the handset have been leaked, giving us a taste of what’s to come.
In terms of design, the renders suggest that the Pixel 8a will adopt the Pixel 8’s design, making it look quite different from its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. Instead of a more boxy design, it has rounder curves, but overall it still looks pretty much like the Pixel 8.
The report also claims that in terms of its dimensions, the Pixel 8a measures 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm, versus the Pixel 7a’s 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm. It is also rumored to sport a 6.1-inch display and under the hood, an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 can be found alongside the Mali-G715 GPU, as well as 8GB of RAM.
The renders also confirm a dual camera setup, but whether or not Google will be keeping the same camera hardware remains to be seen, but for context, the Pixel 7a’s camera setup was an upgrade over the Pixel 7’s in the sensor department, but assuming both devices run the same camera software and processing algorithms, the differences shouldn’t be too noticeable to the untrained eye.
As for pricing, that remains unclear but seeing as the Pixel 7a received a price hike over the Pixel 6a, it might be safe to assume that Google could maintain the current pricing, at least for now.
