WhatsApp for desktop now supports group video calls

0

While WhatsApp on the desktop does pretty much everything the mobile version can, there are some discrepancies between the desktop and mobile app. For example, on desktop, video calls were previously limited to just one-on-one, meaning that group video calls had to be done on the mobile version of the app.

The good news is that you no longer need to switch to the mobile version for group calls. If you’re someone who frequently uses WhatsApp on their desktop to communicate with friends, family, and colleagues, an announcement by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that WhatsApp for desktop now supports group and audio calls.

According to the post, WhatsApp for the desktop will allow users to make end-to-end encrypted video calls with up to 8 participants at once, or audio calls with up to 32 participants at once. With this move, it will make WhatsApp on desktop a lot better and brings it closer to the mobile version, which still gets all the latest features first.

That being said, there are still some differences between the mobile and desktop version of WhatsApp. For example, users cannot send or receive one-time-view photos/videos, and if they want to enable disappearing messages, they will have to do it through the mobile app. We expect that eventually WhatsApp will bring these features to the desktop, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
