A couple of days ago, Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk announced that he was considering bumping the price of Twitter Blue’s subscription to $20 a month, and that verified users would have to pay for that subscription in order to keep their verified status. Unsurprisingly, Musk’s decision was met with a lot of backlash.
This is because right now, Twitter Blue costs $5 a month, so a 400% increase naturally prompted a lot of outrage. Now in a new tweet, Musk is suggesting that instead of $20, it could be increased more reasonably to $8 a month. While this is still an increase in price, Musk claims that Twitter Blue will gain additional features.

This includes priority in replies, mentions, and searches, the ability to post longer video and audio clips, and see half as many ads. Musk also claims that this price will be adjusted by country “proportionate to purchasing power parity”, meaning that in emerging markets, it could be potentially cheaper than $8.
We’re not sure if this $8 will include a verified status as Musk’s tweet seems to suggest that he isn’t too thrilled at who has or doesn’t have the blue checkmark next to their user name. Whether or not these changes will go into effect remains to be seen, or if Musk might make further changes before rolling it out in earnest.
