Google’s Voice application has just been updated to version 0.4.2.8 and brings with it the ability to search your voicemail transcripts and text messages. Searching text messages is nothing too exciting, but searching transcripts should do well to make a lot of people happy. (That’s if you can even get Google Voice to accurately transcribe voicemails to begin with.) Head on over to the Android market to download the update now.

Does this update fix the lag issue that most phones had with the previous version?
i thought you could already search texts. i know i have in the past
still need the app to allow users to do:
1. click on number inside the voicemail transcript and call it.
very basic, but not yet in android.. im amazed why, am i the only one who needs this feature ALLL THE TIMEEEE?
Yes, searching text messages in Android is nothing new. HOWEVER… searching “Google Voice” text messages is now available.
@Slick I hear you. but I think they should fix the damn transcript service so it doesnt seem like its translated manually by someone in China. Mine are never even close to the right words.
@Slick: I totally agree with you. That’s my #1 most wanted feature. Personally, I’m surprised there’s not a built-in mechanism for doing this across all text fields on the phone.
Wondering if anyone has heard when Canada will be getting Google Voice?
There’s no way I’m ever going to update. I’m still using 0.3.0 with free incoming and outgoing calls.
Julian, only one version of GV did that thing where it uses different access numbers. The two most recent versions went back to just using one dial out number.
cool! But unfortunately google voice is still not officially in Germany available …
I’m still waiting for Google Voice to transcribe other languages in particular Russian.
GOOGLE Voice is great…until it breaks!! For no reason my Google voice # stopped working, after a year of handing out my Google Voice number to family, friends and businesses…Try to reach Google for help, it’s impossible. Google’s next big release should be a 1-800 Customer service # to support their products. Needless to say I no longer use Google Voice.
Numbers in transcripts just aren’t interpreted as phone numbers. I find the transcripts are pretty accurate if the caller speaks clearly. In fact, since i asked in my voicemail message for my callers to speak clearly and slowly, the transcripts are 100% better. Midwest, California, and Southwest clients get the best transcriptions. New York and southern clients are the worst. Since i rarely have to listen to VM, I rely on the transcripts a lot. I have one client in Alabama that is practically unintelligible, both in the voicemail he leaves, and the transcript. I always have to call him back. Haha.
