The Google Pixel 6a is Google’s latest Pixel smartphone. While it isn’t a flagship phone like the Pixel 6 series, it is still a relatively solid choice for those who want the Pixel experience but don’t want to pay for the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro.
The phones come with a bunch of cool features and software, but if there’s one thing missing from it, it would be wireless charging. Now, we know that not everyone wants or needs wireless charging, but having it as an option isn’t a bad thing.
Sure, wired charging is faster but there is a certain degree of convenience by going wireless. The good news is that giving your Pixel 6a wireless charging is actually pretty easy and won’t cost you that much.
What you will need
To give your Pixel 6a wireless charging, you will need a couple of accessories to start:
- A wireless charging adapter
- A wireless charger

Since the Pixel 6a does not come with wireless charging tech, a wireless charging adapter essentially retrofits the technology into an external accessory that connects to the Pixel 6a via its USB-C port. It will then draw power from the wireless charging mat, sending it through the USB-C port, which then recharges your phone’s battery.
If you’re balking at the idea of carrying around an additional piece of accessory, not to worry because for the most part, the wireless adapters we’ve come across so far are usually small and thin enough that they can be slipped inside of the phone’s case, so you won’t even know that it’s there.
The downside to this method is that it takes up your USB-C port. If you need the USB-C port to make data transfers to your computer or if you want to switch back to wired charging, then you’ll have to remove it first. It’s not the biggest inconvenience in the world, but it’s something you should take note of.

Now that you’ve gotten a wireless charging adapter, you will need a wireless charging mat to charge your phone on. If you’re new to wireless charging and don’t already have one lying around at home or the office, then these are some charging mats you might be interested in checking out:

Now since Google did not actually include support for wireless charging for the Pixel 6a, it means that Google did not attempt to introduce support for faster wireless charging. This means that you’ll have to make do with the speeds offered by these brands, which are obviously a lot slower than wired, but like we said, if you value the convenience and don’t really need such fast charging, then this shouldn’t be an issue.
Now, no matter how much you stream on your Pixel phone, you can quickly charge your phone with wireless charging.
