The “Set up my Device” procedure appears to have received a Fast Pair UI to help simplify the process of recovering data from your old phone to your new Android device.
We’re not sure when this change occurred, but our friends over at 9to5Google confirm the feature. You’ll be given the choice when setting up a new Android phone or one that has just been restored. The option to restore using the “Set up my Device” notification pop-up has been replaced with a familiar Fast Pair-style UI that is normally reserved for Bluetooth devices
The pop-up even displays a little glimpse of the device that is making a request to set up with the name above, as shown in the screenshot above. On smartphones running Android 12 or newer, there’s also a huge “Set up” button that adheres to Material You’s Dynamic Color theming. Overall, it’s a little but significant update that gives Android an extra degree of cohesiveness going ahead. It also guarantees that all on-device setup activities are intuitive and difficult to overlook.
Hopefully this will be the start of a greater ease of access when it comes to getting started with newer devices, especially for older people or those with disabilities. Having simpler prompts that provide clear and descriptive instructions will be better for everyone in the long run.
