In case you didn’t know, OnePlus and Oppo are actually under the same parent company, BBK Electronics, so when last year it was announced that OnePlus and Oppo would merge their software together for a unified smartphone OS, it kind of made sense since both companies could pool their resources together instead of working separately.
For those who might have been eager to see what that could have looked like, it seems that we might have to wait a bit. This is because in a surprising announcement on OnePlus’ forums, the company has actually unveiled the next major iteration in their OxygenOS software, which they’ll be calling OxygenOS 13 (presumably based on Android 13).
Now, it’s already 2022 and while we can’t move to offline events just yet (I’m sure everyone in the Community Team would love to meet you in person), we’re bringing back the online OEFs to overcome the distance between us with a brand new topic – OxygenOS 13.
We say it’s surprising because given last year’s announcement, we thought that OnePlus and Oppo would have already merged their software or are in the process of doing so, so the fact that OnePlus is pushing ahead with OxygenOS 13 is a bit weird. It is entirely possible that maybe OxygenOS will be the unified OS but we’ll have to wait and see.
OnePlus states that they will be hosting an event on the 28th of February where they will be discussing more about OxygenOS 13, so it looks like we’ll have to wait until then to learn more about the company’s plans.
