The Android tablet market is a mess, and the only company that can really fix that is Google. But Google is either unwilling or just doesn’t care enough to do so. Well, at least that’s what we thought. Apparently, Google filed patents in Japan back in June of 2021 for an all-new Google Pixel tablet.
Thanks to LetsGoDigital, those patents have been revealed, and renders have been created showing off what Android 12 could look like. Unfortunately, there’s not much information shared about the port selection and connectivity of the tablet. However, if these renders were to come to life, this Pixel tablet would be one of the most stunning options out there.
These renders show a display with practically no bezels, along with a hole-punch cutout at the top for the tablets lone camera. On the back, presumably Google would slap its logo in the middle, along with some additional Pixel branding. Moving to the top, we have the power and volume buttons, along with cutouts for the speakers.
It’s unknown whether Google would include any type of smart connector, similar to that of the Pixel Slate. Because of that, these renders only show a USB-C port on the bottom, flanked by two more sets of speakers.
Our first impressions of these renders is when will Google release this because it looks stunning. However, after taking a second, the ultra-thin bezels could prove to be a bit problematic simply because there’s really not much space to hold the tablet without actually touching the screen. Again, these are just renders but it’s still something to consider if Google re-enters the tablet market.
There has been no indication as to whether Google has plans to release another Pixel-branded tablet. The last attempt came via the Pixel Slate, which has since been discontinued, and was powered by Chrome OS and not Android. Aside from that, Samsung and Lenovo have been keeping the Android tablet market afloat, while Apple continues to dominate the market.
