Just this week, Google released the latest Android 12 beta, pushing is ever-closer to the final release. After seeing Samsung begin updating its own apps to support the latest version of Android, it seems that Xiaomi is joining the fun. Xiaomi has released an internal version of MIUI 12.5, which is based on Android 12.
Currently, it appears that the beta is only available in China, along with only being compatible with the base model Xiaomi Mi 11. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given that this is the first internal beta released with the MIUI skin atop Android.

Xiaomi was one of a handful of smartphone makers to join Google in the initial release of the Android 12 beta cycle. The list of compatible Xiaomi devices included the Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11i, Mi 11X Pro, and Redmi K40 Pro. So it’s a bit odd to see only the standard Mi 11 included in this first MIUI 12.5 beta release.
Unfortunately, there are no screenshots or indications as to what Xiaomi will be bringing to the Android 12 release. Considering that this is an internal build, it’s likely to be a little bit longer before we see how Material You has been implemented, if at all, along with what additional features Xiaomi is adding.
We’ll have to wait and see what other devices Xiaomi plans on bringing MIUI 12.5 and Android 12 to. It’s likely that we’ll see it arrive on the flagship and other popular devices, but considering just how many phones Xiaomi releases, we aren’t expecting to see it land on all of them.
