Pixel 4 XL owners now have an additional one year of warranty

If you own a Google Pixel 4 XL smartphone, there is some good news for you. The handset was released in 2019 which means that technically your warranty should already be up if you bought it back then when it first launched, but the good news is that Google is extending it by an additional year.

Before you get too excited, this isn’t because they’re doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, but rather it seems that due to various battery related issues with the phone, they are extending their warranty to cover it. According to Google, the issues that your phone must face in order to qualify for the warranty include:

  • Not able to turn on the phone
  • The phone restarts or shuts down randomly without a manual restart or shutdown
  • Charging with an adapter
  • Wireless charging
  • The phone’s battery draining significantly faster than earlier in its use

What this means is that if your phone has none of these issues and your warranty has already expired, then you’re not covered by it. But if you do encounter one of the issues mentioned above, then you should be covered. Google says that this one year extension will start one year after your original warranty expires.

Google also notes that your phone needs to be in a condition where it’s good enough to repair. So if your phone has a screen that’s cracked or other issues that could interfere with the repair process, you will need to pay a separate fee to get that fixed first.
