Xiaomi could have a Wear OS smartwatch in the works

0

When you think of Xiaomi’s wearables, you might think of the Mi Band, which is arguably one of the cheapest fitness trackers and wearables in the market today, but if a smartwatch is more your jam, you might be in luck because Xiaomi could be working on a smartwatch powered by Google’s Wear OS.

This is according to a recent APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google who discovered evidence in the Wear OS companion app for Android, that there are references made to a Xiaomi made device. The references in question are for a “Mi Wear” and “Mi Watch” device, which is the branding that Xiaomi uses for its products.

Unfortunately, apart from the possible name for the smartwatch and the very good chance that Xiaomi is working on such a device, not much else is known. To be fair, this device would not be Xiaomi’s first smartwatch as the company has released other smartwatches in the past. It would, however, be their first Wear OS smartwatch.

We’re not sure what kind of features Xiaomi could be incorporating into the device, but we imagine that its selling point will most likely be its price, where the company has been known for creating affordable alternatives for higher-end products. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information if and when the device is announced.
