Google’s Pixel 4 smartphones expected to feature 90Hz ‘Smooth Displays’

0

For the longest time ever, our smartphone displays have typically relied on a 60Hz refresh rate. Companies would instead choose to focus on bumping up the resolution of their displays and also the type of displays used instead of its refresh rate, at least that’s until Razer came onto the scene with the Razer Phone and its 120Hz display.

While 120Hz displays have yet to become mainstream, companies are stepping their game up, and that’s what we are hearing Google plans to do as well. According to a report from 9to5Google, they have heard that the upcoming Pixel 4 smartphones are expected to feature new displays with a 90Hz refresh rate, which apparently Google plans on calling “Smooth Display”.

We had previously heard that Google has plans on increasing the resolution of its Pixel 4 smartphones. 9to5Google confirms that the Pixel 4 will have a Full HD+ resolution, while the Pixel 4 XL will have a QHD+ resolution. Combine that with its Smooth Display, they should be rather pleasant to look at and to use.

As we said, the improvement of the refresh rate is a trend that we’re seeing more of these days, with companies like OnePlus and ASUS. We expect that this trend will probably continue, especially given that we have kind of hit a plateau as far as display resolution goes. Take it with a grain of salt, but we should have all the official details in the coming months.
